NEW ARTiculations Dance Theatre, Tucson, AZ is a professional dance company founded in 1997. Currently under the artistic direction of Katie Rutterer, NEW ART is an experimental company by nature. It performs traditional modern, post modern, theatrical and interdisciplinary works. NEW ART has gained notable popularity for its work incorporating theatre, literature, new music and more into full evening multi-media performances. As part of its mission to promote the growth of emerging dancers and choreographers, it seeks to provide collaborative and experimental projects, technique and improvisational classes, guest artist residencies and choreographers’ showcases. Since its inception, NEW ART has held many major public performances, which included improvisational dance and collaboration with poets and musicians. As part of its Community Outreach/Education program, it provides a Youth Dance Ensemble, lecture/demonstrations and free in-theater performances to area school children, an Emerging Choreographers’ Program to mentor and support the artistic growth of aspiring choreographers in the high schools and at large, and a Guest Artist Program which provides guest artists to teach free master classes at area high schools and at the University of Arizona, in addition to the community classes, which are typically offered.
